 Insight Into Blue Springs

Your Personal Leadership Connection

Happy Holidays and welcome to the final issue of the Insight newsletter for 2007. I can hardly believe that the year is steadily coming to a close, a reminder that we've accomplished so much in the City of Blue Springs. As we try to keep you informed on what's taking place in our community, be sure to look for my State of the City address and additional community news in the winter 2008 issue of the Blue Springs Magazine. The winter issue will arrive in residents' homes during the third week of January. Again, Merry Christmas to you all, and best wishes for a healthy, prosperous New Year.

All Aboard!...The Holiday Express

Holiday ExpressTomorrow at 4:00 p.m., the Holiday Express Train will arrive in downtown Blue Springs!  This is always one of the highlights of the year as the train will bring Santa and his Elves to town along with plenty of crafts and activities for all the kids. The Chamber of Commerce welcomes volunteers who would like to assist as elves on the train, to serve hot chocolate and popcorn and to assist at the Public Safety Building with crafts from 3:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Should you like to participate as a volunteer tomorrow, please call the Chamber offices at 816-229-8558.

Adams Dairy Landing Site Work

Ground cleared for Adams Dairy Landing

If you get out and about this weekend, be sure and drive by Adams Dairy Parkway and R.D. Mize (behind Wal-Mart) and see the huge difference in the site where the new Adams Dairy Landing retail center is being built.  Just about all of the ground has now been cleared and the actual site work has begun!

Holiday Lights Winners

A Holiday Lights Contest Winner; photo by The Examiner/Darren MilosevichCongratulations to all those who participated in our annual holiday decorating contest.  I drove by one of the winner's houses the other night on Valley View Road just west of Wood's Chapel Road and wow!  It is amazing!  (Hey, I should know about Christmas Lights!).

Discussions around Smoking in Blue Springs

There has been much discussion in the news and at City Council meetings over the past several months concerning the issue of banning smoking in public places in and around the metro area.  Over a year and a half ago our City Council discussed the smoking issue at a work session and no action was taken.  With the recent citizen-renewed interest, the Council will once again discuss the issue at a work session in January.  Should you have any comments concerning this subject, please contact either myself or your City Council representative.

Pothole Hotline

The winter freezing and thawing cycles inevitably brings with it the aftermath of potholes.  Did you know that the City has a hotline to report potholes?  Should you wish to report a pothole in your street or neighborhood, you can call 816-228-0291.

Momentum at the Mall at Fall Creek
Party Depot at Mall at Fall CreekTwo weeks ago I was treated to a preview dinner at the new Culver's Restaurant at the Fall Creek Mall just south of 40 Highway and 7 Highway.  The restaurant is now open and business is booming!  This past week, I helped cut the ribbon at the dedication of the new Party Depot, also located at the Mall.  Construction has also begun on the new multi-million dollar car wash facility, scheduled to open sometime next spring!
Veterans to be Honored
Freedom Team SaluteAt the next City Council meeting on January 7th, I will distribute several special "Freedom Team Salute" certificates and pins to the Vietnam Veterans that attended the Mayor's Community Prayer Breakfast in early November. Thanks to Warren Parker for helping coordinate these special awards direct from the US Army a group of veterans who are often overlooked.

I also have several specially-prepared Mayoral Metals of Valor available for our local Vietnam Veterans.  Should you know of a Vietnam Veteran that would like to receive one of these medals, please contact my office at 816-228-0110.

Your Servant,

Steve Steiner, Blue Springs Mayor
