Woods Chapel Road Improvements
Project Update
TranSystems_WoodsChappel_Oct13_web.jpg
The Woods Chapel Road corridor is one of the most anticipated projects in the street improvement bond.  Phase 1 combined three separate phases of the original plan, and integrated a cutting-edge Diverging Diamond Interchange design, one of the first to be constructed in the United States!

The completed improvements include: the relocation of the South Outer Road; construction of 36th Street; the reconstruction of Duncan Road, Valley View Road, and Kingsridge Drive; realignment of the North Outer Road; the creation of a new Park-n-Ride lot; sidewalks; decorative colored medians; lane additions north and south of I-70; new rock walls within the I-70 right-of-way; landscaping; and two new traffic signals at Duncan Road, and also at Briarwood/Castle Drives; and the Diverging Diamond Interchange.

This project dramatically streamlined rush hour congestion, better serves our existing businesses and creates a beautiful western gateway into Blue Springs.

Phase 1 of the Woods Chapel Road Project has moved forward so quickly that the City Council recently approved an accelerated start date for the second phase of the Woods Chapel Road project.  Phase 2 includes reconstructing Woods Chapel Road from the south end of the current project to Walnut Street.

Improvements include a new rail crossing; softening the curve just south of rail crossing; realignment of the entrance of Lake Tapawingo to align with Mill Drive; and adding a roundabout at the intersection of Walnut Street and Woods Chapel Road.

Phase II utility relocations are complete and this project is currently out for bid.   Road construction will begin in the Summer of 2014.  Funding for Phase 2 includes $2.9 million dollars of federal matching funds.

Project History
In 2008, Blue Springs voters overwhelmingly approved two bond issues for street and sewer improvements. Question 2 authorized the issuance of $28 million in general obligation "No Tax Increase" bonds for selected road and intersection improvements, including enhancements along the Woods Chapel Road Corridor in Blue Springs, Missouri.
